The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services Aging and Adult Services Agency supports older adult dignity and well-being. As the first Black and person of color to head this agency, it is an honor to serve Michigan’s 2.4 million older adults, the aging network, and our immensely talented team. When I started in this position nearly two years ago, I had no idea we would face a global pandemic — and I could have never imagined that older adults would face such grave risk to their health. Even further from my imagination was the fact that older adults of color, especially those who are Black and African American, would be facing such huge disparities.
